IKEA’s New AR App Lets You Virtually Place Furniture In Your Home

IKEA has never hesitated to include and use technology in their design and products. This time they’ve stepped up their tech game and have come up with an augmented reality app which will change the way you shop. Yup, they just went all Pokémon Go on us. You won’t have to pre-measure your space or suffer through those papercuts from those treacherous IKEA measuring strips anymore.

The all new IKEA Place app lets you virtually ‘place’ IKEA products in your space. The app includes 3D and true-to-scale models of everything that we love from this Scandinavian chain. From sofas and armchairs to footstools and coffee tables.

IKEA Place gives you an accurate impression of the furniture’s size, design, and functionality in your home so you can stop wondering and start doing.

IKEA Place uses ARKit and is only compatible with iPhone 6s and newer for now. In order to use this app, you will have to make sure that the room is well lit. You will have to keep your phone at waist level and scan for an empty piece of floor. Select the product you want to virtually pace in your home and there you go. You’ll have a perfect vision of your redesigned or redecorated home.

Note that the app doesn’t include everything in IKEA’s catalog, just the store’s most popular pieces, and featured ones. The app also lets you share your ‘place’ with social apps like WhatsApp or Instagram. And ultimately, order your products through IKEA Store.
