Continuing all of this week, Google is bringing Where’s Waldo? to Google Maps. The mini-game which released on April Fool’s Day is available on Android, iOS, and the desktop right here in the UAE. You’ll see Waldo pop up in his signature red and white stripes and Wally then invites you on an April Fools world tour!
From there, just tap on and try to find Wally as he travels through different countries and regions.
Once you find Waldo, you’ll be “transported to places all around the world” to start the search again, reach various levels or keep an eye out for his friends.
You can even ask your Google Assistant “where’s Waldo?” on a Home speaker, Chromebook, or Android smartphone and the game just pops up.
Fast Company reports that Waldo is not known with the same name world over. In the U.K. he’s always been Wally; in France, he’s Charlie; in India, he’s Hetti; in Croatia, he’s Jura. The app had to get the character’s name right on a country-by-country basis, based on a master list provided by Candlewick.
In a news release from Google, Waldo himself explains what he’s doing in your Google Maps app.
“I’m always on the lookout for fantastic new places to explore. My last adventure started in sun-sational Mountain View, [Calif.], where I visited the terrific team at Google, including Google Maps product managers Max Greenwald and Shreena Thakore. By the way, I’m not traveling on my own. Wherever I go, my trusty friends Wenda, Woof, Wizard Whitebeard, and even that pesky Odlaw go as well. You can come, too — all you have to do is find me!”
