Amy Schumer is gearing up to make her debut on Broadway in Steve Martin’s new play, “Meteor Shower”.
The brains behind “Inside Amy Schumer” and “Trainwreck”, Amy Schumer will star alongside Keegan-Michael Key (“Friends From College,” “Key & Peele”) and Tony winner Laura Benanti (“Gypsy,” “She Loves Me”). Jerry Zaks (“A Bronx Tale”), will direct.
“Meteor Shower,” which premiered last year in a co-production at San Diego’s Old Globe and New Haven’s Long Wharf Theater.
In an interview with Times, Martin said “I can’t tell you how excited I am. I’ve been working on this for over 20 years — I wrote it in the ’90s, when it is set, but I didn’t finish it, I got distracted, and then it came back to me a couple of years ago.”
Martin also told the Times that he approached Schumer for one of the lead roles since he was impressed by her performance in his play Picasso at the Lapin Agile. He just walked up to her at a party and asked her to read the script. Well, we believe Amy said yes and she also seems to be quite excited about her Broadway debut.
The play is to begin previews Nov. 1 and open Nov. 29 at the Booth Theater in New York.
